Privacy Policy for NextSocial
Effective Date: [Effective date — set on publication]
NextSocial (“we”, “us”, or “our”) values your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, who can see it, and the choices you have when you use the NextSocial mobile app and our website, nextsocialapp.com (together, “NextSocial”).
NextSocial is a social app built around events: you can discover and RSVP to events, share photos, videos and moments from them, message people, and connect with other attendees.
Information We Collect
Information you give us:
- Account Information: When you create an account, we collect your email address and a password, or the sign-in details from Google or Apple if you sign in with them. If you use Sign in with Apple and choose to hide your email, we receive a relay address from Apple instead of your real one. We also record that you accepted our terms and which version you accepted.
- Date of Birth: We ask for your date of birth when you set up your account, to confirm you meet our minimum age. It is not displayed on your profile.
- Profile Information: Your username is required. You can also choose to add your name, a bio, a profile photo, a website, a category, and showcase photos.
- Content You Provide: We collect the posts, photos, videos, moments, Photo Drops, chirps, comments, reactions and poll votes you share.
- Messages: We store the direct and group messages you send, including text, photos, videos, GIFs, link previews and voice notes, so they can be delivered to the people in the conversation.
- Event Activity: We collect the events you create, RSVP to, get tickets for, check in to, or save. For a free ticket we collect the name and email address you give when you register. If an event organizer adds registration questions, we collect your answers, which may include details such as your phone number, date of birth, dietary needs, allergies or accessibility needs. These answers are optional and are shared only with the event’s organizers, who can export them. You can choose to save answers so they are filled in for you next time.
- Event Context Card: If you choose to publish a context card for an event, we collect what you put on it, such as your workplace, role, what you are working on, what you are looking for, what you can help with, your interests, and links such as your LinkedIn profile.
- Support and Feedback: If you contact us, report content, or send feedback or a feature request, we collect what you send us, including any attachments.
Information collected when you use NextSocial:
- Location: We only use your location when the app is open and you use a feature that needs it. We never collect it in the background. If you tap “Near me” in Discover, the app gets an approximate location and keeps it on your device; our servers only receive a broad area to search for events. If you use “use my location” when creating an event, that precise location becomes the event’s venue, and anyone who can see the event can see it. If you add a place sticker to a moment, the place’s name, city and coordinates are saved with the moment.
- Photos, Camera, Microphone and Calendar: With your permission, the app accesses your camera (to take photos and videos and to scan QR codes), your photo library (to choose what to share, or to save photos), your microphone (for videos and voice notes), and your calendar (to add events you choose). We only upload the photos and videos you choose to share.
- Photo and Video Metadata: Photos and videos can contain hidden information added by your camera, such as the date and the location where they were taken. We do not currently guarantee that this information is removed before your file is shared.
- Device Information: We collect your device’s push notification token, app installation identifiers, platform (iOS or Android) and app version, so we can send you notifications and keep the app working on your device.
- Crash Reports: When the app crashes or hits an error, it sends a crash report with technical details such as your device model, operating system, app version and what went wrong. We try to remove email addresses, phone numbers and IP addresses from error messages. Crash reports are not linked to your account. We also receive technical performance information that isn’t linked to your account.
- Usage Data: We record some activity inside NextSocial to power features, for example profile views, new followers, and how many people saw an event (shown to its organizer). When someone views your profile, you see how many people viewed it, not who they are. We do not use third-party analytics or advertising services, or advertising identifiers. Google’s sign-in and Firebase software collects technical and usage information to run and improve those services.
- Website: On our website we use one essential cookie to keep you signed in. It expires after 5 days or when you sign out. Your browser also stores your sign-in state and small preferences, such as whether you closed a banner. The website does not use analytics or advertising cookies.
We do not access your contacts, and we do not collect your phone number at sign-up.
How We Use Your Information
We use your information to:
- Provide, operate, and maintain NextSocial, including your account, profile, feed, events, tickets, check-ins and messages
- Show you events and content, including events near you when you ask for them
- Send you notifications you have not turned off, and service emails such as verification and password reset emails
- Help event organizers run their events, for example managing RSVPs, check-ins and registration answers
- Suggest introductions between attendees when an organizer uses AI matching (see “AI Features”)
- Keep NextSocial safe, including reviewing content, handling reports, and enforcing our rules
- Fix crashes and errors, and understand how NextSocial is used so we can improve it
- Comply with legal obligations and protect our rights and the safety of our users
We do not show ads, and we do not use your information for advertising.
Who Can See Your Information
- Your Profile: Your username, name, bio, profile photo and other profile details can be seen by other people on NextSocial and on our website.
- Private Accounts: If you make your account private, people must send a follow request that you approve before they can follow you, and your profile page shows your posts only to approved followers. Content you share to an event follows that event’s visibility, not your account setting, so people who can see the event can see it. A private account limits where your content appears in the app; it is not a guarantee that no one else can see it, so share only what you are comfortable sharing.
- Close Friends: You can share some content with a close-friends list or with your followers only. The NextSocial app shows that content only to the audience you choose. We are still extending that protection to every part of our servers, so share only what you are comfortable sharing.
- Events: Public events appear in Discover for everyone. Invite-only events can be seen by their hosts, invited people, attendees, and anyone with the event link. People who can see an event can see who is attending it.
- Moments: Moments are visible for 24 hours. After that they move to your private archive, which only you can see.
- Messages: Only the people in a conversation can read its messages in the app. Notification previews on a recipient’s device may show the start of a message. Messages are not end-to-end encrypted, so they are stored on our servers in a form we can access, for example when a message is reported.
- Organizers: Organizers of events you RSVP to or attend can see your RSVP, your check-in (including your name, photo and time), and your answers to their registration questions. They can export registration answers as a spreadsheet. They also see summary numbers about their event’s reach.
- Photo and Video Files: Profile photos and photos and videos you post are stored as files that anyone with the direct link can open, even outside the app.
- Blocking: You can block someone to stop them from interacting with you on NextSocial.
AI Features
We use Google’s Gemini AI service for two features:
- Event Descriptions: When an organizer asks for help writing an event description, we send the details the organizer provides to Gemini.
- Attendee Matching: If an event’s organizer turns on AI matching, and you publish your context card for that event, we send the fields on your published card to Gemini to suggest people you may want to meet. We identify you to the AI service by an account ID, not your name. The organizer reviews suggestions before any introduction is sent, and you can exclude people and give feedback on matches. If you do not publish a context card, you are not included.
Content Moderation and Safety
To keep NextSocial safe, we automatically check content that is shared:
- Photos are checked with Google Cloud Vision, which looks for explicit content and reads labels and text in the image.
- Videos are checked with Google Video Intelligence, which looks for explicit content, identifies labels, and transcribes speech.
- Text is checked on your device with a profanity filter.
Content that is flagged may be hidden and reviewed by a person on our team. If your content is removed, you can ask us to review the decision again. When you report content or an account, we save a copy of the reported content and related information so our team can review it.
If we find content that appears to involve the sexual exploitation of a child, we hide it immediately, keep a record of it, and report it to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) and, where appropriate, law enforcement.
Sharing of Information
We do not sell your personal information.
We may share information in the following ways:
- With Other Users and Organizers: As described in “Who Can See Your Information”.
- With Service Providers: We use trusted third-party services that help us run NextSocial and process information for us: Google Firebase and Google Cloud (accounts, database, file storage, servers, push notifications, crash reports and app configuration); Google Maps and Places (place search and maps); Google Cloud Vision and Video Intelligence (content moderation); Google Gemini (AI features); Resend (sending emails); Vercel (hosting our website); and ui-avatars.com and DiceBear (generating placeholder profile pictures from a name or username). GIF search in messages is provided by Giphy: when you search for a GIF, the app sends your search terms to Giphy, which receives them, along with your device’s IP address, under its own privacy policy.
- Sign-in Providers: If you sign in with Google or Apple, those companies handle the sign-in and share your account details with us.
- For Legal Reasons: We may disclose your information if required to comply with a legal obligation or protect our rights, our users, or the public.
We also import public event listings from Luma so you can discover them on NextSocial. We only import public event details, not attendee information.
How Long We Keep Information
We keep your information while your account is active, except as described below:
- Moments stay in your private archive until you delete your account.
- Disappearing messages are deleted after they expire.
- Files blocked by moderation are deleted after 30 days.
- Report evidence is deleted 90 days after the report is resolved, except child-safety material described above.
- Detailed profile-view records are deleted after 180 days; we keep daily totals.
- Events imported from Luma are deleted 90 days after the event.
- Guest accounts (used without signing up) are deleted after 7 days of inactivity.
- Records of the emails we send you are kept for 90 days, then deleted automatically.
Deleting Your Account
You can delete your account at any time in the app’s settings or on our website. Both work the same way. Deletion is permanent and cannot be undone. When you delete your account, we delete your posts, moments, archive, chirps, photos, videos, comments, likes, reactions, poll votes and follows, along with their files, and we remove your email address, name, bio, date of birth, photos and push token from our records. Your username is anonymized. Totals that included your activity, such as a post’s reaction count or a poll’s results, may still reflect it.
Some information is kept after deletion:
- Your old username is reserved for 90 days so no one else can take it straight away.
- Messages you sent remain in the other person’s copy of the conversation.
- Notifications already delivered to other people are not recalled.
- Report evidence, records of rule violations and account suspensions, and records of your acceptance of our terms are kept for safety and legal reasons.
Your Choices
You can:
- View and update your profile information at any time
- Make your account private and approve follow requests
- Choose who is on your close-friends list
- Block and unblock people, and report content or accounts
- Turn off individual types of push notifications in the app, or all notifications in your device settings
- Unsubscribe from welcome and other non-essential emails using the link in the email (account emails such as verification and password reset cannot be turned off)

Data Security
We implement appropriate technical and organizational security measures to protect your information. However, no method of transmission over the internet or storage is 100% secure.
Your information is stored and processed in the United States, on Google Cloud and Firebase servers.
Children’s Privacy
NextSocial is not intended for children under the age of 13, and you must be at least 13 to create an account. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we learn that an account belongs to a child under 13, we will delete it. If you believe a child under 13 is using NextSocial, please contact us.
Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you through the app or by other means, and update the effective date above.
